What Wildlife Will You Actually See in Costa Rica?

The Icons: Sloths and Monkeys
Sloths are the animal everyone hopes to spot, and Costa Rica delivers. Both two-toed and three-toed sloths live throughout the country, often seen in Manuel Antonio, La Fortuna, and the Caribbean. Look up slowly — they blend in.
Four monkey species live here: howler, capuchin, spider, and squirrel monkeys. Manuel Antonio is one of the easiest places to see several of them along the trails.
Birds, Including the Quetzal
With over 900 bird species, Costa Rica is a birder's paradise. Toucans, scarlet macaws, and hundreds of colorful species are widespread. The resplendent quetzal — one of the world's most beautiful birds — is best sought in the cloud forests of Monteverde and San Gerardo de Dota.

Sea Turtles
